DON MUELLER HONORED AS THIRD RECIPENT OF PAT O’HEARN AWARD
Recognizing his efforts on behalf of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, as well as for his involvement with a variety of other community organizations and service to Holy Family Catholic Community, the Pat O’Hearn Service Award 2011 recipient is Don Mueller.
After graduating from St. Lawrence Seminary High School in Mt. Calvary, Don earned a Masters in Church Ministry from St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee, and later, spent almost four years as a lay missionary in Bogota, Colombia. As director of Worldwide Mission for Milwaukee Archdiocese from 1986-1996, Don worked to raise global awareness, coordinated adult international mission service, and raised an average of $2 million dollars each year.
In 2000, Don and his wife, Cheryl, moved to Fond du Lac, where he became the director of Social Ministry at Holy Family Catholic Community. From 2006-2010, he served as countywide president of the Society, working to increase home visits, establish a Hispanic outreach, and improve the thrift store, increasing sales and volunteer efforts.
Within the community, Don is also involved with Fond du Lac Ministerial Association, Leadership Fond du Lac, and Fond du Lac Redevelopment Authority. He helped to initiate the Fond du Lac Children’s Museum, the Community Education Opportunities (CEO) Fund of the Fond du Lac Area Foundation, and Care INC (In the Name of Christ), a group of 14 Christian churches united to help people to help themselves.
